November/December – 2018
Mexico
One of my all-time favorite cities: Guanajuato.
Mexico City (CDMX): Full guide. Casa del Toño really is a great family restaurant!
Playa del Carmen: resort town. El Fogon for delicious tacos. Day trips to Tulum & Cenotes by Colectivo taxi. Visit Cozumel for beach and scuba diving.

Cuba
I spent 1 week in La Havana and could have stayed longer. Such a vibrant city – highly recommend “La Zorra y el Cuervo” jazz club.
In 2018 Wi-Fi was available at some accommodations. Internet cards were hard to get. ATMs were often out of cash. Any car in the street could be flagged down as a taxi. Busses may or may not run.
Guatemala
Antigua Guatemala is the picturesque old capital. From here you can easily do day trips & overnight hikes to several active vulcanoes: The easiest one with amazing views is Pacaya. (Ausflug auf Vulkane, leichtester + geile Aussicht: Pacaya)

Costa Rica
San Jose: International flights and most longdistance buses pass through here. In December there are Carneval parades.
Limon: I stopped here on the way to Puerto Viejo & mention it here so you don’t have to.
Puerto Viejo: chill beach town. I stayed at the Selina there (party hostel). Car is ideal to explore more.
Onward ticket for immigration is needed. Bus ticket to Panama is ok.
Panama
Bocas del Toro: Dreamcatcher Hostel auf Isla Bastimentos.
Portobello: from here you can take a sailing boat to San Blas and Colombia (reservation required, well in advance).

Places I’d like to go:
- Mexico: Oaxaca, Merida
- Guatemala: Tikal & Lake Atitlan
- Costa Rica: national parks
- Belize: Scuba dive at Great Blue Hole
How to get around:
- flights are the easiest options, but buses are safe and comfortable too
