Japan’s greatest treasure
Though I got to see the snow monkeys during my first trip to Japan in 2018, I did not manage to jump in to the “Onsen” myself. Tattoo issues and hangovers successfully prevented Tina & I from visiting the public baths. So when I went back to Japan in 2019, I was determined to make it happen. And which place is better than the south western most main island Kyushu. It’s two big and still active volcanoes Aso & Sakurajima fuel the many hot spring resorts.

The “Guesthouse Ruco” is to this day one of my favorite hostels. Not only because of the combination of the artsy café on the ground floor and the typically Japanese combination of practicality and simple design; but also because of the people I met there.
